Les Ogres étaient autrefois les seigneurs du monde. Chacun gérait son troupeau humain et développait ses pouvoirs, aidé pour cela par la puissante magie du haricot. Mais à leur insu, une élite humaine de semi-morts, les Nécrates, vit le jour. Eux utilisaient la ronce, dérivé perverti du haricot. Ils renversèrent le pouvoir grâce à une armée de Goules, humains vampirisés par la ronce. La race des Ogres fut exterminée. Un siècle plus tard, ils n'étaient plus qu'une légende... jusqu'à ce que l'un d'eux soit démasqué, lors d'une cérémonie nécrate. Alors la traque commence. Pour empêcher sa soeur d'être « engoulée », la jeune Hémacyte devra se lier avec Aramis, nécrate en devenir, pour faire face au plus terrible gibier qu'ils aient eu à traquer : Maxillien Dentès, le dernier ogre.
