Jerome David Salinger

J. D. Salinger est l'une des plus grands légendes de la littérature américaine. Né à New York en 1919, il grandit dans une famille juive et suit des cours du soir à Columbia University. Il publie des nouvelles dans The New Yorker et Collier's. En 1942, il intègre l'armée et prend part aux combats du D-Day et de la bataille des Ardennes. Hospitalisé en 1945 pour soigner un stress post-traumatique, il reprend l'écriture d'un roman qui deviendra L'Attrape-cœurs et sera publié en 1951. Après le succès mondial de ce chef-d'œuvre, Salinger a toujours évité d'être sous le feu des projecteurs, menant une vie de reclus avec sa femme et ses deux enfants, Margaret et Matthew. Nouvelles, un recueil de neuf nouvelles, a paru chez Laffont en 1961 et Dressez haut la poutre maîtresse, Charpentiers et Franny & Zooey sont déjà disponibles en « Pavillons poche ».
